Mendefera: A conference aimed at expanding pre-primary and junior schools in the Southern Region, with a view to ensuring access to educational services, was conducted in Mendefera on 11 July.
According to African Press Organization, sub-zone administrators and heads of educational facilities participated in the conference, where Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, Governor of the region, emphasized the commitment to construct pre-school educational facilities. These efforts will be driven by initiatives at both regional and community levels, with the goal of enhancing the teaching-learning process.
Mr. Habteab highlighted that the program's objective is to enable children to access education within their residential areas. To facilitate this, the regional administration, in collaboration with area administrators, has already allocated land for constructing the school facilities.
Mr. Hibtzgi Kidane, head of the education office in the region, noted that over the past decade, there have been 131 pre-schools serving approximately 12,000 students. However, through efforts made last year, new pre-schools have been established in 416 villages, doubling the student population.
Participants engaged in extensive discussions on the program's implementation and advocated for available resources to be directed towards its success. Mr. Qaleab Tesfaselasie, Director General of Social Services in the region, urged parents to enroll their school-age children to benefit from the opportunities being offered.
Currently, there are 1,106 schools in the Southern Region, ranging from pre-schools to high schools, actively providing educational services.
