Keren: At a conference in Keren, the Eritrean Ministry of Education unveiled a five-year strategic plan aimed at eradicating illiteracy by 2030. This initiative was developed to build upon the progress made over the past decade.
According to African Press Organization, the national conference, which took place from August 18 to 20, featured presentations by Mr. Gebrezgi Dimam, Director General of Adult Education and Media. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to promoting literacy through adult education programs, evening classes, and the establishment of community libraries. Mr. Gebrezgi urged for increased involvement from partners to support these efforts.
Mr. Gebrezgi presented a comprehensive report on the advancements of the adult education program, highlighting the need for integrated efforts among various institutions and partners to implement the strategic plan. The plan aims to extend literacy benefits to residents in remote areas.
Conference participants engaged in extensive discussions about the issues presented and adopted several recommendations. Ambassador Abdella Musa, Minister of Local Government, praised the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Education with the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Defense in combating illiteracy. He called on teachers to assume a leading role in this important initiative.
