Asmara: The Ministry of Justice in Eritrea conducted its annual activity assessment meeting on the 3rd and 4th of August, focusing on evaluating past activities and discussing future programs. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Ms. Fauzia Hashim, the Minister of Justice, who emphasized the importance of social supremacy, a core mission of the Ministry, which is deeply rooted in Eritrean society's historical and cultural context.
According to African Press Organization, Minister Fauzia highlighted that the community-based legal system is a reflection of the Eritrean people's history, culture, and identity. This system plays a crucial role in ensuring legal supremacy, promoting social harmony, and fostering public confidence. She explained that the legal system, which begins at the family level, significantly contributes to maintaining social stability and harmony.
Minister Fauzia outlined the Ministry's efforts in developing a community-centered legal system, which is aligned with the principles of social sovereignty. She announced plans to establish an organizational structure that aligns with the Eritrean people's history, traditions, and societal values. This structure will be finalized after reviewing public participation in the ongoing organizational process at the area-administration level.
In her address, Minister Fauzia also stressed the importance of ensuring that laws reflect Eritrean traditions and values. She mentioned the Ministry's commitment to nurturing capable human resources equipped with the necessary knowledge and ethics. Minister Fauzia urged all Ministry staff to contribute to achieving these goals.
During the meeting, reports on courts, prosecution offices, the five-year strategic plan, and the development of the Ministry's information technology system were presented. Participants engaged in extensive discussions on various topics, including the establishment of a community-based legal system, legal improvements, human-resource and institutional development, and increasing public awareness.
