Angolan national arrested in airport drug bust

The Namibian Police Force and the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) apprehended an Angolan national on Saturday after he was allegedly found in possession of 67 bullets of what was suspected to be cocaine powder.

The man was arrested at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, making it the second arrest in a week on similar charges. The first incident occurred last Thursday, when another foreign national was screened and allegedly found to have 85 bullets in his stomach, also suspected to be cocaine. The suspect was arrested shortly after he excreted the parcels.

Both suspects, according to Namibian Police Force Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, arrived in Namibia from Ethiopia. It is alleged that the second suspect concealed the cocaine bullets in his underwear and his final destination was Windhoek.

“The two detected incidents make it evident that there is a huge cocaine market in Namibia. As a society we need to join hands and deal with Namibians and foreigners smuggling illicit substances through various entry points in our country. As a force, we are indebted to those who continue to report such activities and any such suspicions to the police,” Shikwambi said.

Investigations are underway to determine who the confiscated substances were destined for, she said.
