Eritrea: Activity Assessment Meeting of Ministry of Education

Asmara: The Ministry of Education in Eritrea held an activity assessment meeting to review the accomplishments of 2025 and chart out an action plan for 2026. The meeting saw participation from heads of departments and units, representatives from Eritrean schools in Sudan, and members of the UNESCO office. According to African Press Organization, the meeting featured a detailed report highlighting significant achievements and future plans. Over 35,000 adults, with 89% being females, registered for adult education, and 76% of them successfully completed their education. Among the 70,349 students who appeared for the eighth-grade national examination, 68.8% achieved passing marks. Additionally, over 700 students graduated from technical, agricultural, and music schools with certificate programs. A five-year strategic plan was also designed, though the reports identified human resource and facility shortages as major challenges. Participants engaged in thorough discussions on the reports and made several recomm endations, such as the preparation of research papers and the enhancement of cultural, history, and language training programs for students. Dr. Halima Mohammed, the Minister of Education, emphasized that the assessment meeting is crucial for recognizing strengths and challenges, helping to maintain achievements and address shortcomings. She asserted that the education sector is a priority for the Government of Eritrea, with a focus on enhancing teachers' capacity, strengthening relationships with government institutions and stakeholders, and aligning resources for the development of the teaching-learning process.
