PM Abiy Hosts Luncheon for Employees Working on Chaka Project


Addis Ababa: On the occasion of the Easter holiday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hosted a luncheon for employees working on the Chaka project.

The premier extended Easter holiday best wish to the employees of the project on the occasion, Office of the Prime Minister indicated.

Ethiopian Easter, or Fasika as it is known locally, has been observed by Christians across the country today.

Easter is celebrated to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Ethiopia Observes 83 Anniversary of Patriots’ Victory Day


Addis Ababa: Ethiopia has observed the 83rd anniversary of the Patriots’ Victory Day around Arat Kilo in Addis Ababa where the monument to commemorate the victory and the patriots erected.

The day was celebrated in the presence of President Sahle-Work Zewde, patriots, members of the National Defense Forces, representatives of the diplomatic community and government officials.

In 1941 Ethiopian patriots defeated fascist Italian aggressor and maintain the territorial integrity of the country and May 5th marked as the end of Italian aggression.

Patriots Victory Day is a national public holiday that marks the end of the Italian occupation and commemorates those who died during the occupation by honoring veterans of the resistance movement.

The commissioner wished a blessed, bright, beautiful and joyful Easter for all Ethiopian Christians.

IGAD Secretary General, Workneh Gebwyehu has also extended his best wish to all Ethiopian Christians.

Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Yevgeny Terekhin, Ambassador of Djibouti, Abdi Mahamoud Eybe and ambassador of Denmark to Ethiopia Kira Smith expressed their best wishes.

The Embassies of US, Israel, United Kingdom, Iran, Pakistan, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Burundi, Eritrea among others have expressed best wishes to all Ethiopian Christians on the celebration of Easter.

The diplomatic community based in Addis wished a blessed and joyous Easter to Ethiopians.

West Region: Transport Delegate urges precautionary measures against seasonal rainfall deficit

In a recent communique, the Delegate of Transport for the West region of Cameroon alerted residents to take measures in anticipation of the seasonal precipitation forecast for May-June-July 2024.

The said communique predicted a rainfall range from normal to deficient levels, with seasonal accumulations expected to reach only 75-80% of the norm.

‘This bulletin anticipates rainfall in the West region ranging from normal to deficient levels, with seasonal accumulations expected to be between 80 and 75% of the norm,’ it states.

The forecast signals an impending extended dry spell, characterized by sporadic and irregular rainfall throughout the mentioned period.

Highlighting the potential repercussions of this forecast, the Delegate emphasized its adverse impacts across various sectors.

‘This situation will have impacts across several sectors, including water stress resulting in plant withering, decreased agricultural and pasture yields, soil impoverishment, and disruption of hydroelectric
production,’ the communique continues.

To mitigate these challenges, residents are advised to take proactive measures. This includes utilizing suitable seeds, planning for irrigation, wearing facial masks, and ensuring access to potable water.
