Ulriche Chomche second Cameroonian picked in 2024 NBA draft

Ulriche Chomche has been drafted into the NBA in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft on Thursday, June 27.

The 18-year-old power forward was the 57th overall pick, selected by the Memphis Grizzles for the Toronto Raptors.

It is the first time two Cameroonians get drafted into the NBA the same year. Centre Yves Missi was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans as the 21st overall pick in the first round.

Before the 2024 draft, Ulriche Chomche was considered the best Cameroonian prospect of his generation after Joel Embiid. He joined from the NBA Academy Africa in Saly Senegal.

The 6 ft 10 power forward who also plays as center, was born in Bafang in the West region of Cameroon.

Seven Cameroonians have now been drafted in NBA history, Ruben Boumtje, Mbah Amoute, Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, Christian Koloko, Yves Missi, and Ulriche Chomche.
