DPM and FM Says Embassies Need to Broaden their Diplomatic Activities


Addis Ababa: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen stressed that Ethiopian missions in overseas should have a broader perspective of their diplomatic activities to take the country’s global standing to a higher level.

While giving work direction to the ambassadors and heads of missions at the conclusion of the annual retreat today, Demeke stated that embassies are expected to accomplish wide-ranging activities to take Ethiopia’s international visibility and acceptance to a higher level.

‘We should ensure the national interest of our country by strengthening our bilateral relations with other countries and expanding our multilateral diplomacy,’ he underlined.

Similarly, briefing the media today, Spokesperson of the ministry, Ambassador Meles Alem noted that the ambassadors annual retreat was taking place in Addis Ababa for the past two weeks.

Ambassador Meles Alem added it was pointed out at the annual meeting that Ethiopia is following a path to achieve great results in t
he field of diplomacy.

Noting Ethiopia’s ties with different countries are getting stronger in the field of diplomacy, he said efforts will continue to bolster Ethiopia’s international visibility, influence and acceptance.

Accordingly, the ambassadors will fulfill their duties towards elevating the country’s diplomacy to a higher level.
