Nouakchott: Liberia's Ambassador to Senegal, Mr. Ali Sylla, recently paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Mohamed Salem Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mauritania, at the Foreign Ministry in Nouakchott. During this meeting, Ambassador Sylla extended warm greetings from Liberia's President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. and Foreign Affairs Minister Madame Sara Beysolow Nyanti to the Mauritanian government and its people.
According to African Press Organization, Ambassador Sylla highlighted the strong ties between Liberia and Mauritania, recalling Liberia's humanitarian efforts in the late 1950s when it hosted many Mauritanians. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and proposed enhancing the relationship to address global challenges effectively.
Dr. Merzoug, the Mauritanian Foreign Minister, congratulated Ambassador Sylla on his new role and acknowledged Liberia's significant contributions to Africa's decolonization and unification processes. In a strategic move, Ambassador Sylla sought Mauritania's support for Liberia's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Dr. Merzoug assured that he would present this request to President Mohammed Ould Cheick Mohammed Ahmed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Richard Garnette, the Commercial Attach© at the Liberian Embassy in Dakar.
