Kourweogo: Nord Gold Niou SA Strengthens Provincial Grove with Over 400 Plants

Kourweogo: The mining company Nord Gold Niou SA planted 413 seedlings in the Kourweogo provincial grove in the village of Tangseghin, with technical support from the provincial directorate in charge of Water and Forests. The initiative is part of the national reforestation drive and has mobilized the province's vital forces.

According to Burkina Information Agency, since the launch of the 7th edition of National Tree Day on June 21, 2025, in Manga, under the theme "Medicinal plants: source of health and climate resilience of communities," the provincial grove of Kourweogo continues to record planting actions. The mining company Nord Gold Niou SA has just enriched this heritage by planting 413 trees in the village of Tangseghin.

According to the provincial director of Water and Forests, Tassere Ouedraogo, the plants planted are essentially endogenous species chosen for their medicinal and nutritional properties. "These contributions are of great importance to the department and the province, because the grove, created on an area of 4 hectares, constitutes a site for the preservation of certain endangered plants," he said.

For his part, the community relations officer of Nord Gold Niou SA, Kayaba Kabore, recalled that this initiative reflects the company's commitment to combating desertification and is part of its social responsibility. The High Commissioner of Kourweogo Province, Mahamadi Congo, welcomed the commitment of the mining company which, in addition to supplying seedlings, contributed to the completion of the grove fence.

He invited other partners to follow this example, stressing that the need for reforestation in the province remains significant. The High Commissioner also congratulated the women and young people of the commune of Niou, particularly those of the village of Tangseghin, for their constant efforts in maintaining the grove.

For the coordinator of the provincial citizen monitoring committee, Simeon W. Ilboudo, this action demonstrates local support for the call launched by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, in favor of reforestation. The consular representative of the craftswomen of the Plateau-Central region, Mamounata Ouedraogo/Zoungrana, a native of the locality, emphasized that the provincial grove constitutes a major asset for women, by offering them food, medicinal and non-timber forest products close to their villages. She reassured them of her willingness to continue mobilizing her colleagues to ensure the upkeep of the grove as she has been able to do since the dry season.
