Huawei Launches FRMCS Solution to Facilitate Digital Transformation of Railway

BERLIN, Sept. 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei officially launched the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) solution at the InnoTrans 2022 and the 9th Huawei Global Rail Summit in Berlin, Germany, where special guests, Wang Guoyu, COO of Huawei Aviation & Rail BU, and Li Jie, President of Huawei Enterprise Wireless Domain, spoke about its success. This solution is a remarkable achievement for Huawei, as a result of its extensive research and experience in ICT deployment within the railway industry of over two decades. With a focus on improving safety and reliability, Huawei FRMCS expands train-to-ground wireless services from train control and dispatch to railway O&M, railway IoT, and more. It empowers widespread digital transformation of the rail sector, ensures train operation safety, and improves railway operations efficiency.

Huawei launches the FRMCS solution

The demand for smart railways that can carry huge capacity is growing. Huawei FRMCS can not only provide the required high reliability and low latency for train control and dispatch, but also support new services such as locomotive status monitoring, train operation monitoring, and visualized dispatch of O&M personnel, improving fault prediction accuracy and O&M efficiency.

The FRMCS solution uses a new technology, 8T8R Smart MIMO, which allows it to achieve the same coverage in the 1900 MHz band as that of GSM-R in the 900 MHz band when working with high-power devices from Huawei’s partners. This slashes deployment and maintenance costs of FRMCS on 1900 MHz and simplifies the deployment of FRMCS networks. By providing three levels of redundancy, including key boards, key network elements, and wireless networks, Huawei FRMCS eliminates single-point failures on networks, ensures high reliability of devices and networks, and meets the requirements of the European Train Control System (ETCS). Its architecture complies with railway industry standards, which facilitates the interconnection between wireless networks and railway industry applications, as well as the deployment of new services.

Li Jie said: “The railway industry is now in a critical period of digital transformation when the requirements for train-to-ground wireless communication systems are higher than ever before. Huawei FRMCS can meet these requirements by integrating Huawei’s 4G and 5G technologies. It can help railway customers build high-reliability, high-bandwidth, future-oriented train-to-ground wireless broadband networks that are safe, reliable, converged, simplified, and capable of long-term evolution.”

Huawei will work with industry standards organizations, industry customers, and partners to promote the maturing and large-scale commercial rollout of FRMCS, and build a wireless digital foundation for smart railways.

Statement of the Delegation of Eritrea to the 51st Session of the UNHRC

Delivered by Adem Osman, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Eritrea in Geneva.

Thank you, Mr. President.

Eritrea would like to reiterate its principled position that States shoulder the primary responsibility to safeguard human rights and to addressing challenges if any.

The dire security and human rights challenges that we witness today in Ethiopia are the consequence of the unprovoked and premeditated war unleashed by the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front on the Northern Command of the Federal Forces of Ethiopia in the first week of November 2020 as well as the subsequent offensives that it launched in the Amhara and Afar Regions in the period thereafter.  These reckless and deplorable military attacks with the rampant use of child soldiers were characterized by wanton pillage, destruction of property, and egregious atrocities. Unfortunately, the present report largely ignores the heinous crimes committed by TPLF in what has become a familiar pattern to whitewash its crimes while shifting the blame to its primary victims to advance ulterior political agendas.

The report is indeed at variance with the facts on the ground and the alleged human rights conclusions are unsubstantiated or misplaced, at best.

The accusations that the Eritreans National Defense Force have committed grave crimes and that Eritrea has exacerbated the situation are simply untenable and peddled for the political purposes mentioned above.   It is also incompatible with the historical track-record of established norms and discipline that characterized the conduct of its combatants and army in the imposed wars that it had to grapple with in previous decades.

Finally, we strongly reject the recommendations and in particular; the malicious trend to link and refer the UNHRC session to the UN Security Council.

Address by Minister of Agriculture; Mr. Arefaine Berhe at the National Potato Conference

Mr. Chairman;

Distinguished Participants from

CIP, Teagasc, Vita, ASARECA

Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania;

Senior Government Officials;

FAO Resident Representative;

Deans of Hamelmalo and Science College;

Invited guests;

Ladies and Gentlemen;

It really gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome you all to Asmara and especially to those coming from outside Eritrea to this maiden National Potato Conference.  In the presentations of yesterday and the morning of today, we have covered a large territory on Eritrea’s experience in potato trials, production distribution, regulation and marketing.   More significantly we have had presentation from the potato god-father or mother the CIP, our long-time close partners in potato promotion and development Teagasc and Vita from our regional research umbrella ASARECA and our regional would-be partners Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.

Mr. Chairman,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As Eritrea is only on the first step of the ladder in terms of potato production and even more so on productivity your combined assistance is absolutely crucial for us.  As we all know and appreciate, potato is the third most consumed crop globally because of its economic and nutritional value.  In Eritrea it is number five.  Our final destination is, therefore, to produce potatoes in abundance throughout the country and throughout the year to make it accessible to every Eritrean at an affordable price at all times.

To do this, we have to make trials on different varieties that can thrive in the highlands and lowlands.  We have barely started production of table potatoes in the lowlands last year with very encouraging results.  However, we need to do more and especially with varieties that are developed by CIP for that kind of climate.  Our expectation from our long-time partners is to increase the scope and depth of our cooperation.  From CIP we expect to get focused training, technical assistance and especially planting materials with very high quality, short duration for both the highland and lowland. I am glad that Dr. Monica raised the issue of sweet potatoes as well.  That is a priority crop for us as we are seriously working to tackle the incidence of any malnutrition in children under 5 years of age.  For this, we need high-quality and nutritious planting material with short cycle production.

Mr. Chairman,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Considering our modest experience and the cooperation we get from our long-term and new partners, our first priority is to articulate the next five-year strategic plan in the areas of research, extension, regulation and capacity building.

Production in quantity and quality will take a center stage.  However, value addition will also be given its due attention.

For this to happen production of healthy quality seed potatoes is the bottom line and we will endeavor to reach this height, hopefully, in the next five-year cycle.  To this effect, we take good note of the strong recommendation made regarding importation of seed potatoes.  We will focus, as much as possible, on producing clean and safe seeds through our tissue culture technology to avoid unnecessary contamination.

Dear participants, as you saw in some of our posters, we are giving utmost emphasis to the production, refinement, regulation and wide distribution of solid and liquid bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides in order to attain our final goal of ensuring safe and nutritious food security.  I am sure we can all appreciate that we can not have sustainable development without caring for the environment.

In conclusion I would like to acknowledge the tireless and effective work of the Ministry staff at the headquarters and zobas and especially the farmers who are the engine of development.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my profound gratitude to our long-time development partners Teagasc and Vita, our regional research network coordinator ASARECA, The International Potato Center (CIP) and our regional partners Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.  Your participation and constructive contribution is highly appreciated.

However, I can not end my concluding remarks without acknowledging the fundamental contribution of a great friend and a devoted professional Dr. John Burkes who turned the chapter of potato production in Eritrea.

Finally please allow me to commend the organizers of the conference for a job extremely well done.

Thank you for your attention!

Statement Delivered by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Osman Saleh at The Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter

Excellencies,

Distinguished Colleagues,

It gives me great honor to convey to you the warm brotherly greetings of H.E. Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, who wished us all success in our deliberations. I would also like to congratulate the Group for this Third Ministerial Meeting and the Political Declaration before us. My deepest gratitude further goes to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela who successfully steered our works and for graciously hosting us at its esteemed Mission.

Excellencies,

In a period of time when the lofty ideals of the UN Charter are being blatantly dented and unilateral coercive measures, as opposed to multilateral principles, have become the norm, the Third Ministerial Meeting of our Group of Friends in the Defense of the UN Charter signifies both practical and symbolic importance. Sovereign equality of nations – small or big; poor or rich –, as envisioned in the UN Charter, has been severely undermined by unilateral coercive measures, unwarranted sanctions and interventions. These illegal acts do not only erode the Charter fundamentals, but they are also intended to subdue nations, foment chaos, and impoverish societies. As a spill-over effect, the spirals of assorted conflicts, including proxy wars, geopolitical tensions, terrorism, cross-border crimes, and so on are jeopardizing regional and international peace and stability. Apparently, these legacies of the ‘uni-polar’ global order are sliding us into another cycle of a ‘cold war’ theatre.

Startlingly, acute inequalities, exacerbated by the Covid pandemic, are also hitting the roof and millions have been forced into a destitute state. Besides, the dangers of climate change are hideously inflicting human and socio-economic calamities.

Excellencies,

It is against these injustices and daunting collective challenges that the vision and actions of our Group of Friends need to be cogently articulated and executed. Above and beyond, the sacrosanct tenets that constitute the UN Charter and international law namely, sovereign equality, independence, territorial integrity, and non-interference – should be resolutely upheld. The core purposes of the Charter –international peace and security, development, and human rights – equally remain crucial and indispensable in realizing the collective aspirations of humanity.  Thus, the existing global order and its institutional architecture – as unfair as it is designed – need sweeping and comprehensive reform. And to this end, a conspicuous vision and coordinated actions are plausible imperatives in laying a level-playing field, whereby the intergovernmental and multilateral nature of any UN processes are ensured.

Excellencies,

Within the one-year period, our Group of Friends has managed to galvanize the requisite groundwork for future collective endeavors, wherein the level of commitment and goodwill of member States is of essential imperative. While assessing past undertakings and sketching plans, thus, it is vital to embrace a more ambitious and achievable action plan that addresses and counters existing and evolving challenges. In this regard, a qualitative expansion of our membership is needed to strengthen and deepen the works of the Group. However, any numerical increase should not temper the core principles and purposes that the Group was established for. Besides, coordination of activities needs to be equally operationalized in all chapters where multilateral fora are situated.

Finally, I would like to assure you that Eritrea remains steadfastly committed to upholding the objectives of our Group of Friends and looks forward to the first meeting of the ‘National Coordinators’ to be held in Tehran in November.
