Huawei Intelligent Cloud-Network, à la pointe de l’innovation numérique

BANGKOK, 22 septembre 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei a dévoilé les capacités améliorées de sa solution Intelligent Cloud-Network lors du sommet « Intelligent Cloud-Network, Leading Digital Innovation » (à la pointe de l’innovation numérique), qui s’est tenu à Bangkok dans le cadre de l’événement HUAWEI CONNECT 2022. Ces capacités concernent trois principaux scénarios, CloudFabric, CloudWAN et CloudCampus, et ont été créées dans le but de répondre aux besoins changeants des clients. Liu Jianning, président du service marketing et ventes de solutions de Global Enterprise Network chez Huawei, a déclaré que l’un des changements les plus importants pour les réseaux de campus est la mise en place de réseaux entièrement sans fil. An Aspiring Eritrean Artist Heading to A Continental Award

Our guest today is Seare Futsum, an actor who has recently been nominated for the Sotigui Awards in three categories: best actor of East Africa, golden award for best actor of Africa, and the people’s choice for African best actor for his role in ‘Seare’, a short film based on a true story of the 1998 – 2000 war between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

 

Thank you so much for your time, Seare. Please introduce yourself.

Thank you for having me. My name is Seare Futsum, born and raised in Asmara. I’m 28 years of age, was born in February 1994. I went to high school in Keih-Bahri Secondary School and then went to college in Mai-Nefhi. I have been working on art since I was a young kid, but the time that I started doing it professionally was 2012. That was when I started taking music seriously. I started with music but then shifted to acting in 2015.

You started as a singer but ended up being an incredible actor. What happened?

The acting career wasn’t really something that I wanted to pursue at the beginning. I love music, and it’s almost impossible for me to go for even a single day without it. I wanted to do music ever since I was a kid and I used to rap for my friends. We call it the “Zemenawi Masse”. I used to perform for my friends and free style all the time when we were in high school. They always motivated me to do more and they always said that one day I’d make it big and that I should just follow my dreams as a rapper.

And it was good and that was always on my mind. I then went to Sawa as a member of the 26th round of the national service, and when I got back here, I made a friend and we started going to the studio, started recording and making more songs. But we weren’t conscious about so many things back then because we were young, so all we talked about was things that weren’t given much credit.

A year later, in 2014, I wanted to promote my music. We had been working with Merhawi Meles since 2013, and I asked him if I could be in a movie to help me promote my music. He introduced me to Zeriesenay Andbebrhan, who’s a very great writer and director. I got a call from director Zeriesenay after about two months saying he found a spot for me and that I’d be perfect for it. So, I got a part in this first YouTube series movie called ‘Fqri Lomi’kine’ and he put me in two episodes. That meant the world to me. I met with some great actors and actresses whom I learned a lot from. I pretty much learned something about the movie industry, like how much it takes to shoot and edit a movie, how long it takes to study a script, how long it takes to rehearse and so much more. People said they loved watching the series and encouraged me to do more. But I still wasn’t into acting. I was still focused on my music because I had a whole crew called “Hwnet Records. We opened up a studio and we were doing great and doing what we were meant to do. But then after about a year, Nahom Abraha offered me a part in a movie.

I thought to myself, “Well, I have now promoted my music, so why not I do another movie?” Nahom said that I’d love it and I said, “Okay, let me try.” That movie was made and it got nominated for a lot of awards in places such as Kenya and France. It was very motivating to see it go that far, and it was then that I began to see myself as an actor. I met Debesay Weldu afterwards and did ‘Machelo,’ the longest television series to have been aired on Eri- TV. And that has brought up a lot of opportunities. I have taken part in more than 23 movies so far. This is pretty much my acting journey so far.

We have seen you shine in different movies, and you have been nominated for the Sotigui awards for your role in one movie. Tell us about that movie.

That movie is ‘Seare.’ It’s about the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia in 1998 to 2000. It’s based on a true story of an Eritrean guy who came from America and died at the war fighting for his country, Eritrea. We liked the script and the story so much that we wanted to do it by using our own names.

I played the protagonist using my real name, Seare. We took days to do the outdoors and field shots in Adi-Keih, Belewkelew, Sen’afe, and Hawaxu with the 17th military division. We sent the movie to Sotigui Award after we posted it on YouTube and re-edited it based on people’s feedbacks. Samson Ghebrezgabher helped us a lot in presenting our movie to the Sotigui Award. He’s very much interested in Eritrean movies and has been trying to do a lot of big things for Eritrean artists. He’s the same person who took the TV series ‘Machelo’ to that award. Thousands of movies from the whole world reach Sotigui Awards, and they pick only a few. So it’s a big deal for us to be nominated for such awards.

Tell us more about your character in the movie ‘Seare’

My character was this person who left for America along with his dad when he was a kid, and his mom passed away giving birth to him. He studied nursing in college and was pretty much into photography as well.

He came back to Eritrea with his dad to go to some historic sites and take photos of such places. His dad was a medical doctor in America and wanted to come back to Eritrea and help his people and share his knowledge. When they got here, Seare went to the historic site to take photos, but, unfortunately, the city near the place that he was at started to get bombed. He took a call to go to the front lines and fight for his country. He then met new people, made new friends and went through the experiences of the war there. He basically went through all the terrible situations that the war put you in and died trying to save his friend. It’s a real tragedy and a sad story.

How does it feel to be nominated for the awards, and what does this nomination mean to us as a nation?

The Sotigui Award is the biggest deal in West Africa and it’s one of those ranked top in art. So, it means a lot to me, our country and our people. Through this, we get a chance to meet more producers, writers, directors and artists from the entire continent. We can uplift cultures through connections with people in Africa because we all go through the same things as a continent. We are going through very challenging times and having bad times in Africa. There’re conflicts between clans and countries over things we aren’t supposed to go to war. The conflicts are mostly initiated by external interest groups, and that’s the message we’re trying to put through the movie. It means a lot to get connected through arts, and we, artists, can find a common ground and work together. We can grow economically, politically, culturally and more. We just need those connections. It’s a big chance for us artists to come together as representatives of our countries and grow as a continent.

National Potato Conference concludes

The two-day National Potato Conference that was held at Asmara Palace under the theme “One Vision and Harmonized Work for Sustainable Potato Seed Supply” concluded today 22 September.

At the conference, the first of its kind, research papers focusing on Irish potato coalition in Ethiopia, Potential of potato production in the lowlands of Eritrea, Potential and contribution of Hamelmalo College of Agriculture in seed potato value chain, Strategic intervention to support the development of seed potato systems in Eritrea, Breeding process, Potato seed, production, distribution and marketing in Eritrea, Farmer based potato seed multiplication in Gamo Zone, Ethiopia, as well as impact of potato seed project (2015-2021) on Eritrean farmers among others were presented.

Indicating that potato stands fifth in its economic contribution and nutrition content, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, expressed Eritrea’s readiness to work in partnership with global organizations and associations to develop the ongoing research Eritrea is conducting on several potato genres.

Dr. Henok Warinda, Executive Director of Association of Agricultural Research for Eastern and Central Africa, on his part said that the conference has been helpful in understanding that Eritrea has accomplished so far and in identifying areas of cooperation and expressed appreciation for the research papers presented and participation of Eritrean youth at the conference.

Appreciating the effort Eritrea is exerting to develop improved potato seeds and for organizing the conference, Dr. Monica Parker, Senior Scientist at International Potato Center, expressed readiness to cooperate with the Halhale National Agricultural Center in the development of its research activities.

At the vent awards were handed over to exemplary farmers and sub-zones.

Senior Eritrean delegation held bilateral talks with delegates of several countries

On the margin of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, the Eritrean senior delegation led by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has participated at several high level meetings and held bilateral talks with delegated of various countries.

At the meeting Minister Osman Saleh held with Mr. Carlos Faria Torsoa, Minister of the People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the two sides discussed bilateral diplomatic relations as well as cooperation and solidarity at multilateral fora; both sides also agreed to further deepen their consultations and broaden relations. They further reaffirmed their commitments to strengthen the Group of Friends in the Defense of the UN Charter, to which they are members.

Minister Osman Saleh also held extensive discussion with his Algerian counterpart Mr. Ramtane Lamamara, Foreign Minister of Algeria, focusing on global, continental and regional matters. Both sides recognizing Africa’s marginalization on the global stage urged for its rightful position and appropriate consideration of its voices. Appreciating their countries’ similar positions in most continental and regional as well as international issues recalled the historical, political and cultural ties between the two peoples; and vowed to continue their consultations in either of their capitals.

At the meeting with Mr. Nikola Selacovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, the two sides discussed bilateral diplomatic relations, cooperation and capacity building opportunities. Minister Nikola Selacovic on his part appreciated Eritrea’s principled position for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Minister Osman Saleh also met with Mr. Demeke Mokonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and discussed on regional dynamics, including mutual challenges and opportunities, and stressed consolidating and strengthening bilateral relations of the two brotherly peoples and countries.

At the meeting Minister Osman Saleh held with Mr. Fayssal Mekdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, revisited the historical, political, social and cultural relations of the two brotherly peoples. Mr. Fayssal Mekdad expressed his country’s appreciation for Eritrea’s strong support and solidarity during the difficult times of his country.

Minister Osman Saleh also participated in the Ministerial Meetings of the Non-Aligned Movement, Group of Friends in the Defense of UN Charter, Least Developed Countries, and the Group of 77 and China as well as in various high-level meetings and side events including the Transforming Education Summit.

Market Growth Drives Reorganization of Integrated Cryogenic Solutions Unit of Nikkiso Clean Energy and Industrial Gases Group

Gates Foundation Announces $1.27 Billion in Health and Development Commitments to Advance Progress Toward the Global Goals

First in-person Goalkeepers event since 2019 convenes global changemakers to highlight the urgency of achieving a more equitable world by 2030

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — During United Nations General Assembly week, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation—alongside governments, philanthropies, the private sector, NGOs, and global and community leaders—announced commitments totalling $1.27 billion to improve and save millions of lives.

The funding will address overlapping global crises that have reversed the progress already made toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals). The foundation’s sixth annual Goalkeepers Report notes that nearly every indicator of the Global Goals is off track at the halfway point for achieving them by 2030. Despite these challenges, the report highlights opportunities to accelerate progress by investing in long-term solutions and innovative approaches to entrenched issues, including poverty, inequality, and climate change.

The funding will go toward the Global Fund’s goal of saving 20 million more lives from HIV, TB, and malaria; building more resilient health systems to prevent future pandemics; and putting the world back on track to end these diseases by 2030. Today’s pledge includes the foundation’s largest commitment yet to the Global Fund of $912 million.

“We see the greatest progress when governments, the private sector, and local communities collaborate in global health programs,” said Bill Gates, co-chair. “The commitment this week to combat preventable diseases and save millions more lives through the Global Fund replenishment is a great step forward in getting back on track to reach the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Accelerating Progress Toward Global Goals
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the following commitments this week:

  • $912 million pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
    This is the foundation’s largest commitment yet to the Global Fund. Since 2002, health programs supported by the Global Fund partnership have saved 50 million lives. This funding will help accelerate efforts to end HIV, TB, and malaria by 2030 and build resilient health systems needed to protect against future pandemics. It also will be instrumental in reducing the disproportionate impact of these diseases on women and girls.
  • $100 million to help alleviate the food crisis disproportionately impacting communities in Africa and South Asia and address its underlying causes

This funding will go to:

    • The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) to support national governments in rebuilding resilient, sustainable local food systems
    • The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) to make fertilizers affordable and accessible for smallholder farmers
    • The CGIAR’s Nigeria-based International Institute of Tropical Agriculture research center to accelerate work that is already supplying farmers with improved and new varieties of crops, such as beans high in iron; sweet potatoes naturally rich in vitamin A; and naturally hardy cassava, millet, and sorghum
    • Working with partners to supply sustainable feed and fodder to African families that depend on livestock as a critical source of income and nutrient-dense food
    • Working with partners to strengthen local food systems by empowering women farmers with the tools and resources they need to succeed and support their communities

In addition, the foundation will double its previous commitment to the Child Nutrition Fund—from $10 million to $20 million. Our investment will support the fund’s expansion beyond ready-to-use therapeutic food to include preventative nutrition products for both women and children.

  • $200 million to expand global Digital Public Infrastructure
         This funding will help expand infrastructure that low- and middle-income countries can use to become more resilient to crises such as food shortages, public health threats, and climate change, as well as to aid in pandemic and economic recovery. This infrastructure encompasses tools such as interoperable payment systems, digital ID, data-sharing systems, and civil registry databases.
  • $50 million to Partners in Health Scholarship Fund to attend the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE)  in Rwanda
    This commitment will help catalyze efforts to raise $200 million. The scholarship fund will support students, 75% of whom are women, to attend UGHE and help accelerate efforts to increase the number of health care workers in Rwanda and around the world.

Celebrating Global Goalkeepers
In recognition of the remarkable work of world leaders to advance the Global Goals, the foundation also announced the winners of its 2022 Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards on September 20.

  • Progress Award – Dr. Radhika Batra, co-founder of the nonprofit organization Every Infant Matters, which provides last-mile health solutions to disadvantaged children in India
  • Changemaker Award – Zahra Joya, a journalist from Afghanistan who founded and self-funded Rukhshana Media, an online news agency focused exclusively on covering issues that affect the women of Afghanistan
  • Campaign Award – Vanessa Nakate, a climate justice activist from Uganda and founder of the Africa-based Rise Up Movement and the Green Schools Project
  • Global Goalkeeper Award – Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission
