World Bank’s New Vice President for South Asia Region to Visit Bangladesh

Dhaka: The World Bank's new Vice President for the South Asia Region, Johannes Zutt, arrives in Dhaka today for a four-day official visit. During his stay, Zutt is scheduled to meet with the Honorable Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, the Finance Adviser, the Bangladesh Bank Governor, and other senior government officials and representatives from the private sector.

According to World Bank, Zutt, who took on his role as World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region on July 1, 2025, has chosen Bangladesh as his first official destination. His prior experience includes serving as the World Bank's Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal from 2013 to 2015.

Zutt expressed his positive recollections of Bangladesh, noting his admiration for the resilience and creativity of its people. "I have very fond memories of Bangladesh, its people, and the friendships I have made there," he stated, emphasizing his anticipation of witnessing the nation's progress over the past decade. He reiterated the World Bank's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth, particularly in creating employment opportunities for the two million youths entering the job market annually.
