Ouagadougou: The municipality is organizing a day of gutter cleaning and sanitation. The R©o town hall organized, this Saturday, a day of cleaning gutters and sanitation, in collaboration with technical services, local associations, as well as young people and women from the town.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the R©o special municipal delegation, Sindi Issaka Zagr©, indicated that this operation aims to improve hygiene and prevent flood-related risks. He called on residents to become more involved in maintaining clean and clear environments.
"We have called on the public to come out en masse. Many gutters are clogged due to human behavior. Everyone must clean and clear the front of their yard. It is not up to the town hall alone to do this while citizens watch without participating," he said. He noted that the awareness-raising phase will soon give way to punitive measures. Actions such as dumping garbage in gutters or building and installing structures on drainage systems will be punished.
Ms. Tamboura, a member of the Talnatch© association in R©o, welcomed the initiative and urged local residents to better manage their waste to avoid clogging gutters. Her sentiments were echoed by Djibonzoum Eug¨ne Bamouni, president of the Friends of Nature of Sangui© association, who reiterated that sanitation is a collective duty. "The municipality is our home. No one will come and develop it for us," he insisted.
Local authorities have announced that further sanitation operations will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
