Muhanda’s 100-Seater Tent Donation Boosts Income for Shikumu ADC Members

Kakamega: Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has donated a 100-seater tent to the Shikumu Agricultural Development Committee (ADC) in Idakho Central Ward, Ikolomani constituency, to boost their income. Speaking during the handover function, Muhanda emphasized that the tent would facilitate the group in hosting events and renting it out, thereby creating a sustainable revenue stream to support local development projects.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Shikumu ADC leadership welcomed the gesture, highlighting that it would reduce costs for local functions while providing opportunities to rent the tent to neighboring communities. A committee member remarked on the affordability of hosting weddings, meetings, and social events, with the income generated used to fund their projects.

Muhanda reiterated her commitment to grassroots development, promising to deliver practical solutions that directly improve livelihoods. The donation is part of her countywide empowerment program, which equips community groups with resources, training, and opportunities to enhance their economic base through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

Previous beneficiaries of the program have received water tanks, sewing machines, and event chairs to promote self-reliance. Shikumu ADC members are optimistic that the new tent will attract consistent bookings, generating income to reinvest in agriculture, education, and social welfare initiatives in the area.

Muhanda stated her dedication to delivering long-term economic benefits and continues to champion a vision of a self-reliant and economically vibrant Kakamega County.
