Migrants Rescued from Refrigerated Lorry in France; Driver Not Under Investigation

Calais: French medics had to treat Eritrean migrants hidden in a UK-bound refrigerated lorry for hypothermia Saturday, after the driver heard their cries for help, officials said. The driver heard the group of 15 stowed away in his lorry while at a motorway rest stop, said a senior official with the Pas-de-Calais prefecture in northern France.

According to Nam News Network, the condition of hypothermia among the migrants suggests they had been inside the lorry for several hours. Christian Vedelago, head of the local prefect's office, confirmed that the migrants were provided with medical assistance promptly. Despite the alarming situation, the driver of the lorry is not under investigation, as his actions led to the eventual discovery and rescue of the individuals involved.

The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting dangerous journeys to reach the United Kingdom. Local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and provide necessary aid to those affected.
