Ethio Telecom announced today the launch of 'Copper Switch Off' Initiative designed to modernize its services. Ethio Telecom CEO, Frehiwot Tamru told the media that the initiative is intended to modernize wired broadband internet and data-based voice services by replacing the exiting copper lines with fiber optics. The initiative is a crucial move to address the long-standing complaints of customers as it replaces the age old copper lines with fiber optics network which ensures efficient services, the CEO said. Frehiwot stated that the initiative is part of the national vision to realizing Digital Ethiopia. The transition from copper lines to fiber optics will be carried out for the coming years across the country, the CEO said, noting that copper lines of 100,000 customers will be changed to fiber optics during the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
