Burkina: ‘We want standard rails to have modern trains’ (Captain Traoré)

The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, indicated Saturday in Ouagadougou that he wanted to build a rail production plant with a view to installing rails that meet the standards for the circulation of modern trains and thus combat youth unemployment. "We want rails that meet standards to have modern trains. We are going to set up the factory that produces rails and Burkinabe people will work there," said the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The Head of State answered a listener's question live on national radio on Saturday morning at the Koulouba Palace in Ouagadougou. This was on the occasion of the second year of his arrival in power on September 30, 2022. He noted that the rails his country has are old. "That is why you have old locomotives. These are not rails that meet international standards at present," he regretted. For him, no locomotive in the world can run on these rails. "This led us to explore a little across the world to create rail lines," he explained. However, laying the rails remains expensive, he acknowledged. As a result, the country has decided to "set up a factory" that will first produce the rails and then lay the rails. In his opinion, the establishment of this unit will create jobs.
