Annual Conference Highlights Key Aspects for Eritrea’s Mining Sector

Asmara: The Society of Eritrean Earth Scientists and Mining Engineers held its annual conference on July 24 and 25 in Asmara, focusing on "Professional Engagement for Building Shared Values in Mining." According to African Press Organization, Mr. Daniel Woldeyohannes, chairman of the society, emphasized that sustainable development in the mining sector hinges on technical excellence, collaboration, knowledge sharing, professional integrity, and a collective commitment to advancing the profession. Mr. Daniel stated that the conference aimed to unite Earth Scientists and Mining Engineers to enhance professional engagement, promote knowledge and experience exchange, and contribute to the responsible and sustainable development of Eritrea's mining industry. During the conference, 14 research papers were presented. These papers covered a range of topics such as the Environmental Impact Assessment and Developmental Projects, the Bisha Processing Plant, Eritrea's Mining Strategic Roadmap, an update on Zara Mining Share Company, and the general condition of the mining industry in Eritrea. Participants engaged in extensive discussions on these presentations. The event also addressed the role of mining professionals in increasing public awareness and discussed the expectations and challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence in the mining sector. The Society of Eritrean Earth Scientists and Mining Engineers was established in December 2019 and currently boasts over 300 members.
