Asmara: President Isaias Afwerki met this morning in Adi Halo with a Chinese delegation led by Mr. Hu Changchun, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China. During the meeting, President Isaias emphasized the importance of China’s constructive engagement with Africa. He highlighted the need for capacity-building initiatives that are free from competitive motivations, especially in light of global changes.
According to African Press Organization, President Isaias also discussed China’s potential role in resolving conflicts in the Horn of Africa, which are often aggravated by external powers. He affirmed Eritrea’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding, comprehensive bilateral relationship with China, celebrating 70 years of cooperation.
Mr. Hu Changchun conveyed President Xi Jinping’s goodwill message to President Isaias Afwerki, expressing China’s readiness to deepen its strategic partnership with Eritrea. The Special Envoy detailed China’s commitment to reinforcing
its partnership with Africa, emphasizing capacity building and self-reliance. He also reiterated China’s principle of mutual respect based on sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
