Asmara: President Isaias Afwerki met with a high-ranking Italian delegation at Denden Guest House in the mid-afternoon hours. The Italian delegation was led by Mr. Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, along with Mr. Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
According to African Press Organization, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and partnerships. These discussions are a continuation of the agreements made during President Isaias Afwerki's meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Italy in February 2024. The collaboration aims to enhance various sectors, including energy, mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The talks also covered marine resources, tourism, culture, sports, human capital development, economic cooperation, and finance. Additionally, both parties addressed issues related to regional peace, security, and stability. The meeting was attended by Mr. Hagos Gebrehiwet, Head of Economic Affairs of the PFDJ, and Mr. Alfonso Di Riso, Ambassador of Italy to Eritrea.
