Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Defiling Niece in Baringo North

Kabarnet: A middle-aged man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Kabarnet court for defiling his 15-year-old niece in Baringo North.

According to Kenya News Agency, Collins Kipkemboi faced charges for unlawfully committing an indecent act with a child. The incident occurred on an unspecified date in October 2024, at Chesamach forest in Kilingot village, Ossen location. The charges were brought under section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006.

In court, Kipkemboi denied the accusations when presented before Senior Resident Magistrate Edwin Mulochi. The victim recounted that her uncle had asked her to accompany him to the forest to collect firewood. Once there, he allegedly grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and defiled her. She further revealed that he threatened her life if she disclosed the incident.

The court was informed that in January 2025, the victim experienced stomach pains at school and visited Kabartonjo sub-county hospital, where it was discovered that she was pregnant. Subsequent examinations at Kabarnet County Referral Hospital revealed that she had miscarried.

In his ruling, the Senior Resident Magistrate emphasized the need to curb such offenses, stating that the act was rampant and must be discouraged. Kipkemboi was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to others. He was granted 14 days to appeal the ruling.
