Nigerian police have issued an arrest warrant for British national Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey) on charges of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu. Nigerian authorities have formed a special inter-agency task force to investigate the plot, which preliminary data suggest involves other foreign mercenaries, the Daily Trust newspaper reported.

‘The Nigerian Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a foreign national and subversive elements who were plotting to undermine the democratically elected government of Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country,’ said Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The police officer also added that ‘following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended, who received substantial financial support from foreign sources to destabilize the country.’

According to the publica
tion, “preliminary findings suggest that they orchestrated and financed violent protests, spread false information and engaged in other illegal activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government,” the Nigerian Defense spokesman concluded.
