Kakrao traders in Suna East Sub County have urged the county government to complete the stalled Kakrao market to ease their suffering. Migori Municipality Management Taskforce and Kakrao market management committee revealed that the market was in a poor state despite its nonusage for more than four years. The Kakrao market was a flagship project by Governor Okoth Obado initiated in 2018 but still lacks social amenities like an ablution block, water and electricity. Migori County Municipality Administrator George Omondi said that the task force will review all the proposed changes in the next 90 days to ensure that the market is completed. Omondi said that the county management will review all the stalled flagship projects that were initiated by the previous regime to ascertain their benefits to the local residents. He noted that the municipality committee together with various market management committees in urban centers will deliberate on how to rehabilitate and complete the stalled markets for the benefit of the local business community. ‘The county is willing to ensure that all stalled projects that are worthy to our business community and residents are rehabilitated and completed to generate income as well as revenue to the county coffers,’ noted Omondi. The officer pointed out that by redeveloping urban markets the county will decongest Migori bus terminus and market, a headache that the county administration is currently facing. Last month the county had to relocate fish mongers at the Migori bus terminus to a new location with the hope of decongesting the bus terminus. Omondi called upon the Kakrao market management committee to be vigilant and safeguard the market to prevent more vandalism on market infrastructure. Kakrao Market Management Committee Chairperson Timothy Ngesa acknowledged that traders have been suffering because of the stalled market. He lauded the efforts of the municipality taskforce to tour the market and see the depleted nature of the abandoned market structure. Ngesa however urged the municipality management to speed up the completion process of the market in order to ease the suffering of traders and residents of the Kakrao area.
