Two men alleged to have murdered a pensioner last week at Mabushe village in the Mashare constituency appeared in the Ndiyona periodic court on Wednesday following their arrest on Tuesday.

The duo, Linyando Murayi (38), a traditional healer from Mbwata village in the Ndiyona constituency, and Kandere Shinkanda (30), the grandson of the deceased, appeared before Magistrate Selma Shika on murder and attempted murder charges.

They have been on the run since Monday, 11 September.

The suspects were denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges against them and their case was postponed to 16 January 2024, for further police investigations and to allow the accused to obtain legal aid representation.

It is alleged that the pair walked into the victim’s homestead at 19h30 and shot and killed the deceased, Mbambi Shinkanda (82) while his wife Annarosa Mungenga (92) was injured on the left thigh.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were found with an AK47 riffle, which is suspected to have been used in the murder, one magazine and seven live bullets that have since then been seized by the police as evidence used in the commission of this crime.
