Bazega: The water police service of the Nazinon region conducted a field monitoring mission targeting water resources management, resulting in the arrest of offenders and seizure of equipment in Bazega province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation was spearheaded by the Nazinon region’s water and environmental police department. The mission, which included a visit to the Nacombogo dam in Ipelce and the Ouidi pre-packaged water production unit in Kombissiri, aimed to ensure adherence to water management regulations by local farmers and water production facilities.
Moumouni Ilboudo, head of the water and environmental police service of Nazinon, highlighted the mission’s objective to enforce compliance among those occupying the dam’s banks and the pre-packaged water production unit. The control mission, comprising national police, gendarmerie, and regional and provincial services, was overseen by Boureima Sawadogo, Deputy Public Prosecutor of Faso, who serves as the focal point for water and environmental policing at the Ouaga 2 Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The mission at the Nacombogo dam observed significant compliance among farmers who had cleared large portions of the banks, although several offenders were apprehended. Seized items included improperly installed motor pumps and gas cylinders used for siphoning water. Mr. Sawadogo stated that the offenders would face procedures leading to appropriate sanctions.
Meanwhile, at the Ouidi water production site, the absence of the manager and employees prevented the inspection. Consequently, a summons was issued, requiring the head of the unit to present documentation regarding water quality in Manga for further questioning.
The water police service in the Nazinon region operates under the Nazinon regional water directorate’s coordination.
