The current development of a part of the trunk road (TR) 1/3 between the turn-offs of Tses and Gochas, which is approximately 88 kilometres long, is scheduled to be completed on 18 January 2024.

This was said by Roads Authority (RA) Corporate Communications Manager, Hileni Fillemon, in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday.

Tses is a village in the ||Kharas Region along the B1 route, situated 80km north of Keetmanshoop, while Gochas is situated in the Hardap Region southeast of the main road between Mariental and Gibeon.

According to Fillemon, rehabilitation and construction work on the N.dollars 532.7 million contract began on 18 February 2021.

She stated that the contractor, China Henan International Cooperation Group, was awarded the contract for the project’s completion, and that approximately 80 per cent of the work on the route has been completed.

She added that 68 kilometres of the total 88 kilometres have been covered with the first slurry seal.

The project encompasses the rehabilitation, widening and strengthening of the existing road and surfacing of the road shoulders.

“The objective of this project is to enhance road safety and to maintain transport infrastructure at the prescribed standards, as a priority policy,” Fillemon said.
