Dori: The Liptako Regional Directorate of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training is holding regional meetings on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) from 13 to 14 October 2025 in Dori. This meeting is part of the preparations for the National TVET Forum, scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou from 27 to 28 October 2025, under the theme: “Implementation of reforms for a technical and vocational education and training system serving the endogenous development of Burkina Faso”.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Dori conference brought together institutional stakeholders, private sector representatives, trainers, and technical and financial partners. It aimed to present the reforms undertaken in the field of TVET and to identify the needs, challenges, and opportunities specific to the Sahel region. The organizers stated that these regional consultations will help to feed into the national forum’s discussions in order to adapt the training system to local socio-economic realities.
Chairing the opening ceremony, the Secretary General of the Liptako region, Auguste Kinda, welcomed the active participation of regional stakeholders and recalled that TVET constitutes a strategic lever for employment, industrialization and the empowerment of young people and women. Mr. Kinda acknowledged that, despite the progress made, the sector still faces several challenges, including the lack of attractiveness of its sectors, the lack of modern equipment, the shortage of qualified trainers, and the mismatch between training and the needs of the job market.
To address these shortcomings, the government has initiated several structural reforms. The Secretary-General cited, among other things, the national skills development strategy, the establishment of pathways between sectors, modular education, and the promotion of work-based learning. These initiatives, he said, aim to make TVET more inclusive, flexible, and adapted to changes in the world of work.
Mr. Kinda called for a collective mobilization of public authorities, the private sector, partners and trainers to build an innovative, resilient TVET system anchored in regional realities. According to him, only such synergy will allow Burkina Faso to have professional training capable of supporting a strong, job-creating and sovereign economy.
