Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has conducted effective diplomacy during his stay in Rome, according to the Press Secretariat Head of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Press Secretariat Head, Billene Seyoum pointed out that Ethiopia is a transit and destination country for illegal immigration.
In this regard, PM Abiy has clearly pointed out the seriousness of the problems to the conference, she added.
According to her, the premier has stressed the need for bridging the development gap between the North and the South in order to solve the problem in a sustainable way.
To this end, he also noted that developing countries should be supported in their efforts to reduce poverty, including debt cancellation.
She further stated that Abiy said that investment projects in the developing countries should focus mainly on benefiting the youth.
Billene added the prime minister also presented Ethiopia’s experience at the United Nations Food System Summit.
During the occasion, he explained that Ethiopia has been working to improve the food system beyond ensuring food security through irrigation development, Green Legacy Initiative, and school feeding programs, among others.
Moreover, the premier proposed a new and inclusive financial support system to solve the food system problem in developing countries.
The press secretariat head underscored that Ethiopia has presented its best experience at the summit and this will contribute to strengthen the cooperation of the nation with different countries in the sector.
She finally recalled that the PM unveiled a memorial plaque in Rome in honor of the heroic Ethiopian athlete.
He tweeted on the occasion that “Abebe Bikila is a source of national pride and a national gem. He is a unique athlete that raised the profile of Ethiopia to prominence on the world stage and opened the door for many African athletes. He remains a unique symbol of endurance and invincibility.”
