Kourweogo: The association ‘Ecole au Sahel’ (EAS) Burkina, handed over 21 tons of rice to 242 sponsored students and learners in the province of Kourweogo, aiming to promote their retention and academic success.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the food handover ceremony took place at the association’s headquarters in Bousse, with provincial authorities responsible for humanitarian action and education in attendance. Christophe Kabore, the coordinator of EAS Burkina, explained that the distribution, equivalent to a 50 kg bag of rice per family, is intended to support parents as the school year begins.
He stated, “The objective is to contribute to the schooling, retention, and completion of studies of children from disadvantaged families.” In addition to the food distribution, EAS Burkina provides various forms of support to sponsored children, including covering school fees, supplying school kits, ensuring health and nutritional monitoring, and facilitating access to educational materials.
The asso
ciation also aids young people in learning trades by providing equipment and transportation. Since its inception in 2012, EAS Burkina has helped over 160 youths complete their schooling or vocational training in Kourweogo, with many now employed in public and private sectors, demonstrating the positive impact of the initiative.
Authorities present at the ceremony commended the association’s commitment and urged parents to enhance their involvement in their children’s education, whether they are in school or apprenticeships. They emphasized that education requires a shared responsibility among partners, families, and the State.
For the beneficiaries, the rice donation is a significant relief, reducing household food expenses and creating better conditions for children’s success. The association, through this donation, reaffirms its dedication to supporting vulnerable families and improving the education system in Burkina Faso, particularly in Kourweogo province.
