Gourma: The Provincial Directorate of Sport and Leisure of Gourma received a donation of two computers from the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The donation, comprising a desktop and a laptop, was presented on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in Fada N’Gourma.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director of Sport and Leisure of Gourma, Boualihamou Hedwige Lompo/Ouattara, stated that the donation responds to a pressing need identified during the last session of the provincial consultation framework of Gourma. She explained that her department previously had only one computer, which was frequently malfunctioning, forcing staff to rely on private offices for certain tasks.
Ms. Lompo highlighted that she had sought support from technical and financial partners during the provincial consultation framework. Her appeal was supported by the High Commissioner of Gourma, who acknowledged the difficulties faced by the provincial administration. She expressed her gratitude for the donation, noting that it would significantly alleviate the department’s challenges.
Gilbert Magloire Abale, the IRC’s director of operations based in Ouagadougou, emphasized that the donation aligns with the organization’s mission to support technical services in benefiting the population. He remarked that addressing this logistical issue would enhance the structure’s performance.
The High Commissioner of Gourma Province, Silas Nacanabo, praised the IRC’s gesture, recognizing it as a beneficial act of solidarity. He acknowledged the IRC’s efforts in alleviating population suffering across various sectors.
The International Rescue Committee has been operating in Burkina Faso since 2019, engaging in sectors such as the environment, water and sanitation, health, labor, employment, and social protection. Its activities have expanded to the Gourma province since 2022, alongside operations in localities like Djibo, Arbinda, Ouahigouya, Dori, Seguenega, and Toma.
