Zopiele: The governor of the Djoro region, Siaka Barro, conducted a monitoring visit to the rice-growing lowlands of Zopiele in the commune of Ouessa, where he acknowledged the dedication of the producers and the efforts of technical services.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this visit was part of a routine check-up on agricultural activities, aiming to motivate producers to maintain their efforts for a fruitful agricultural season. Governor Barro was joined by the High Commissioner of the province of Ioba, Innocent Ouattara, the Prefect and President of the Special Delegation of the commune of Ouessa, Ismael Sanogo, and the Regional Director in charge of Agriculture.
In the rice lowlands of Zopiele, which span an area of 42 hectares, a potential yield of 168 tonnes is anticipated. This area is cultivated by 158 producers, including 42 women, who receive support from agricultural technical services and governmental assistance in the form of inputs and ploughing support.
During his visit, Governor Barro observed the presence of agricultural agents assisting producers, a support highly valued by the local population. Noting the maturity of the fields and the effective implementation of agricultural techniques, he commended the producers for their adherence to the presidential initiative for food sovereignty.
“We encourage you to continue your efforts to support the highest authorities in achieving food self-sufficiency,” Mr. Barro urged the rice farmers of Zopiele.
The promising condition of the crops at this stage of the agricultural campaign suggests a satisfactory harvest. Before arriving in Zopiele, Governor Barro also inspected the rice-growing lowland of Boulmouteon in the commune of Koper.
