Goulmou Region Troupes and Artists Chosen for SNC 2026 Performing Arts Competition

Goulmou: Eight traditional troupes and artists from the Goulmou region have been selected to participate in the performing arts category at the National Culture Week (SNC) 2026 in Bobo-Dioulasso. This follows the regional competitions held on September 18 and 19, 2025, in Fada N’Gourma.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Nanbonwende troupe from Tibga was selected for the youth traditional dance discipline, while the Yempabou troupe from Tibga will represent in adult traditional dance. In the Traditional Song Stars discipline, Namoamo Balkima from Gourma emerged successful. The Gedeon Association of Gourma will showcase traditional instrumental music for adults, and Tin Todi Yaba of Kompienga will participate in popular choirs. Lompo Lamourdia of Gourma has been chosen for slam, the Djelimangou Orchestra of Gourma for the orchestra category, and the Yankadi Cultural Center of Gourma for youth pool ballets.

The jury assessed performances from 22 artistic groups across disciplines including orchestra, traditional dance for youth and adults, ballets, traditional song stars, popular choir, traditional instrumental music for adults, and slam. They commended the dedication of regional and provincial authorities and the significant public engagement. However, they pointed out a lack of preparation among some participants and the disqualification of certain troupes due to non-compliance with regulations.

The jury recommended that supervisors and performers strictly adhere to scripts, enhance their preparation, and adapt performances to modern stage requirements. They suggested refresher training for the qualified groups before the national competition. Jean Lompo, head of the cultural heritage department at the Goulmou Regional Directorate of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Tourism, lauded the quality and authenticity of the performances. Promoter and cultural actor Jean Baptiste Zombre described the event as a “grandiose competition,” emphasizing that “culture is our true value and what distinguishes us in the eyes of the world.”
