ETHIOPIA, ERITREA SHOULD WORK IN PARTNERSHIP, SAYS VISITING ERITREAN PRESIDENT

ADDIS ABABA– Visiting Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki says the governments and peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea should work together in partnership for the development of the peoples of both countries.

President Isaias, who visited Hawassa, capital of Ethiopia’s Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) Region (province) as part of his State visit, said Sunday that Ethiopians and Eritreans are one people living in two countries.

Thus, he called on peoples of both countries to work in collaboration to ensure peace and tranquility and realizing prosperity as well.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized that the cessation of the state of war between the two countries had enabled them to work together hand in hand.

President Isaias Afewerki is making the first visit to Ethiopia by an Eritrean leader in more than two decades after the two countries agreed to end long-running border standoff following the visit of Premier Abiy Ahmed to Asmara last week.

Upon his arrival in Addis Ababa on Saturday, President Isaias received a warm welcome from Abiy and hundreds of thousands of residents of Addis Ababa. President Isayas described the warm welcome he received as happiness difficult to describe.

The world has to notice that history is in the making between our two countries and peoples, he said.
