Deputy Prime Minister Calls IOM to Scale Up Support

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen has called on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to scale up its support for Ethiopia in its endeavors to manage migration.

The new Director-General of IOM, Amy E. Pope is in Addis Ababa for official working visit to Ethiopia.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen has received the Director General at his office today.

On the occasion, Demeke congratulated her on her election and expressed his desire for a strong partnership with the Ethiopian government.

He also briefed her on the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement and underscored the key role of the IOM in our resettlement and rehabilitation programs.

The IOM chief, on her part, said that the beginning of her first visit to Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa, is a testament to the close cooperation.

The IOM is committed to being a partner in resettlement and rebuilding, she noted.
