Bamenda: Police in search of man who set mother of two on fire

Tamjong Divine from Ntumbaw village, Ndu subdivsion in the North West region, is actively being wanted by Police in Bamenda, for setting a mother of two on fire.

On Friday August 30, 2024, Ngorang Anifatu, was sitting in her makeshift Kicthen in Mile 6, Nkwen, Bamenda, frying somehting for her two daughters.

The accused who is reported to have constantly harrased her over a piece of land where both parties wnated to work on, arrived with fule in a bucket, poured it on Ngorang Anifatu. The victim who was cooking on three-stone fireside, sustained first degree burns.

‘So that Friday around 12:30 pm, she was frying plantains so that she could give her daughters to eat. While sitting beside the fire, the guy came with patrol in a bathing bucket and poured on her such that the patrol would link with the fire and burn her, and that exactly what happened as all of her body was on flames. He left her immediately while she and her two daughters were screaming,’ someone who has knowledge of the incident and request
ed not to be named, told CNA newsroom.

The same source reevaled that Tamjong Divine who was fighting over this piece of land, has never dated htis lady nor was married to her as narrated on social media. He accsued the victim of reporting the land disoute to Ambazonia fighters, before carrying out the act.

‘The guy in question is not her husband as some claim. They were just neighbors, the deceased was living in a housed given to her for free because she was really struggling financially. It seems they had been having quarrels partly because of a piece of farm land that the owner of the house where Anifatu was living gave her to be farming on. It seems the guy wanted to be farming on the same piece of land. Anifatu had been in the village in the past month or so because she lost an aunt. She came just about a week ago.’

When fire took all over he rbody, two ladies who were entering the compound heard screams of her and the daughters. ‘While they were there the guy came back and was threatening to kill her
saying that she reported him to ‘the boys’ twice. Until these two ladies had to beg him kneeling down to spare her life before he left.’

The women alerted some neighbors who came and went to military base (militaire engineering unit) just about 700 meters away from scene area who came and took her to the Bamenda Regional Hospital. One of the ladies that went to the house followed them to the hospital,.

‘The doctors started work on her but acknowledged to us that she really needed prayers.’

She died Monday morning around 4am.

Ngorang Anifatu was recently baptized in May 2024, at the Salvation Baptist Church Mbelem, Mile 6-Nkwen not long in May. The single mother, 25, leave behind two daughters.

Ngoran Anifatu’s father is a Muslim from Nkar, Bui Division and her mother is mbum from Donga Mantung.
