Asmara: The 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations was commemorated at Asmara Palace Hotel. The event attracted Ministers, senior Government and PFDJ officials, representatives of national associations, heads and representatives of UN offices in Eritrea, and members of the diplomatic community.
According to African Press Organization, Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the historic commitment made eighty years ago to prevent future generations from experiencing the horrors of war. He highlighted the need to uphold the dignity and equal worth of every human being and to govern international relations with law, equity, and mutual respect rather than power.
Minister Osman also affirmed Eritrea’s dedication to a vision based on self-determination, partnership, and shared prosperity, rejecting dependency and affirming the sovereign rights of nations to determine their own developmental paths.
Ms. Nahla emphasized Eritrea’s model of development, which is built on community resilience, self-reliance, and social cohesion. She expressed the United Nations’ commitment to collaborating with Eritrea on shared development goals.
The event also featured a video message from Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
