Ethiopia Working to Expand Legal Overseas Employments to Europe, Asia


Addis Ababa: Efforts are being carried out to expand legal overseas employments to Europe and Asia in addition to the Middle East, Minister of Labor and Skills (MoLS) Muferihat Kamil revealed.

Approached by ENA in connection to overseas employment, Muferihat noted that better payment and employer relationship is being created by protecting the right, dignity and safety of citizens through legal agreements with respective countries.

Stating that activities are being carried out to expand legal overseas employments to Europe and Asia in addition to the Middle East, the minister said 304,000 citizens have been able to secure overseas employments in ten months in countries that have legal agreements with Ethiopia.

Ethiopian embassies in respective countries are providing close support for Ethiopians, she said, adding activities are also being underway to further strengthen people-to-people relations with the countries.

Stressing the need to take utmost cautions for citizens from the illegal traffickers, she s
aid that strict survivance is in place on entities involved in such illegal activities..

Muferihat urged citizens to tip and report legal instances to the ministry and law enforcement agencies.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan and Qatar are currently providing legal employments; while Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed with Beirut and Kuwait to begin employment agreement, it was learned.

Meet Nigerian family Imafidon, UK’s smartest family

Hailing from Nigeria, the Imafidon family has garnered recognition as the ‘smartest family in the UK,’ and perhaps even the world.

Comprised of Chris and Ann Imafidon and their five children, the family boasts a remarkable academic pedigree that has captivated audiences worldwide.

Ann-Marie Imafidon, embarked on her university journey at the age of 15 and later founded Stemettes, an organization dedicated to empowering women in STEM fields.

Meanwhile, Christina Imafidon made waves by entering university at the tender age of 11 and conducting groundbreaking research at Oxford University.

Samantha Imafidon stunned the academic community by sitting for high school exams at just 6 years old and enrolling in secondary school at the age of 9.

The youngest members of the family, Paula and Peter Imafidon, affectionately known as the ‘Wonder Twins,’ made headlines for becoming the youngest students to attend a British secondary school. Not only did they excel in mathematics, but they also aced
the advanced mathematics exams at the University of Cambridge.

The twins’ exceptional talents extend beyond academics, as they have also been recognized for their prowess in athletics. They aspire to pursue careers in politics and education.

The family’s extraordinary achievements are attributed to the innovative educational approach of their father, Chris Imafidon, a renowned professor and scientist.

SOWEDA envisages more projects despite decreasing state subvention, insecurity

The South West Development Authority, SOWEDA has mapped out other income streams to increase it’s activities and impact on the rural population as government subvention is on the decline.

The Board Chair, Herbert Apande Ediage disclosed at the end of the 50th Ordinary Session of Board of Directors May 31, 2024. The SOWEDA Management has been tasked to look for partners and other collaborators especially internationally who have development plans.

He further explained that, this is not only going to be a development move but an investment by SOWEDA to birth returns and help her meet other social responsibilities.

In 2023, despite alarming insecurity in the South West posing difficulty; SOWEDA distributed over 250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand) cocoa seedlings and trained South West farmers on climate smart activities and agricultural pollution. They also donated an ultramodern solar powered borehole to Missaka chiefdom in Tiko, and installed the first weather station in Bangem.

n his appraisal of the activity reports, the Board chair said, they ‘realised that Management executed the budget at a good rate. Resources were mobilized to the tune of about two billion, two hundred and sixty-six million. And of this, one billion, eight hundred and forty million were executed in terms of expenses.That gives an inscription rate of about 81%.’

Considering the insecurity plaguing the South West as the major challenge, the Board through it’s chairman congratulated the SOWEDA management. Not only for the level of project execution, but also for the quality of the documents they brought up.

Cameroon’s National Order of Physicians outlines new prescription guidelines

The President of the Council of the National Order of Physicians of Cameroon has issued a directive aimed at enhancing prescription practices within the medical community.

Effective July 1, 2024, pharmacies will only dispense prescriptions that meet specific criteria outlined by the Order.

According to the directive, prescriptions must be issued on letterhead bearing the prescribing doctor’s full name, specialty, and complete address, along with the name of the health facility.

Furthermore, doctors are required to affix a name stamp accompanied by their registration number with the Order.

In light of these requirements, the President of the Council has urged all doctors registered with the Order to ensure that their prescriptions adhere to these guidelines.

Doctors are encouraged to obtain schedulers that conform to the universally recognized standards of the profession.

The measure is said to help in combating the illegal practice of medicine and elevating the standards of the medica
l profession.

CHRDA condems GCE targeted attacks in North West School

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA, has condemned two targeted attacks at the start of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination in the North West.

The first incidence was recorded on Tuesday, 28th May 2024 in Bamenda. Local authorities confirmed that an attack by gunmen targeting St. Federick Comprehensive High School, Mankon resulted in a student and a security officer being shot on the leg by stray bullets.

CHRDA in the release also profiled the second incident which took place in Mandock neighborhood in Oku, Bui Division. Their report explained that following sporadic gun shots to deter students from taking the GCE Examination in the area, a student died.

Jiseh Betrand Chung, an ordinary level candidate is reported by CHRDA to have been shot on the head. He later died while receiving medical attention. A man in his forties is equally reported injured and another in the same age bracket kidnapped following the gunshots.

CHRDA has reiterated i
t’s condemnation for acts against the schooling enterprise, calling it ‘unjustifiable and unacceptable’. It has called on authorities in these areas to carry out proper investigations inorder apprehend the perpetrators for punishment.
