House Urges Media to Play Active Role for Successful Conduct of Nat’l Dialogue


Addis Ababa: Ethiopian media should consolidate their efforts for the successful conduct of the dialogue processes by allocating sufficient time and providing extensive coverage, House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) Democracy Affair Standing Committee Chairperson Ewnetu Alene underscored.

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission organized today a discussion forum with media representatives on further strengthening their work on the dialogue processes.

During the discussion, Ewnetu emphasized the responsibility and crucial role they play by the public and private media in achieving the national dialogue process during the coming months.

All the public and private media houses in Ethiopia need to allocate sufficient time as well as resources and provide extensive coverage to the dialogue process, he stressed, adding “Considering the critical significance of the national dialogue, the media should even work more.”

The national dialogue is an opportunity for the country to solve its challenges, he added.

The National Dialogue Commissioner, Ambassador Mahmoud Diriron his part underscored that the media has critical role in facilitating public participation and consensus building throughout the dialogue process. He noted that Ethiopia has embarked on national dialogue processes to address the major challenges facing the country and reach consensus through discussions.

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission is one of the essential institutions created to find a lasting solution to the existing political polarization and other pressing issues of the country, it was learned.

In this regard, the media has essential functions, the commissioner said, adding that it plays significant role in achieving set objectives by the commission.

‘The media sector is our major stakeholder to make this national dialogue process successful. And its role is immense in achieving the objectives of the consultation,’ he stated.

The media outlets have also been urged to provide accurate and balanced information that would foster
a spirit of national unity and create space for constructive dialogue, it was indicated.

The commissioner also recalled the successful completion of participants and coordinators identification in ten regions and the two city administrations.

Training program for coordinators of the national dialogue in the Amhara region were conducted, he said, adding that similar activities are set to commence in the Tigray region.

Established in 2022, the National Dialogue Commission aims to address key national issues to achieve lasting peace and reconciliation, bringing together diverse range of stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue.

Gov’t Encourages Strong Private Sector Engagement in Its Effort to Realizing Digital Ethiopia


Addis Ababa: Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh called on the private sector to play a leading role in realizing Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

A panel discussion focused on Ethiopia’s digital economy was held at the Science Museum today in the presence of the deputy prime minister as well as senior government officials and stakeholders in the technology sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen said that since digital Ethiopia is inevitable, the country has embarked on implementing important initiatives that would pave the way for inclusive growth in the global digital economy.Currently, Ethiopia is executing a digital transformation strategy to harness technological driven economic growth and propel the East African nation towards an innovative and sustainable economy.

Explaining the reasons why it is necessary to speed up digitization for Ethiopia, Temesgen underscored that digitalization can play a leading role in accelerating the country’s growth.

Additionally, the deputy prime minister said dig
italization would help to improve the delivery of public services and empower the governance system.

It has also become an important tool for citizen engagement, and improved quality of life, he revealed.

Mentioning that Ethiopia has the potential to build a digital economy, for instance, Temesgen stated that it is a country with young people who are eager for technological innovation.

At the policy level, the deputy premier mentioned that ICT is being reinforced in Ethiopia as one of the five main pillars of the economy in the ten-year development plan.

In this regard, he indicated that massive infrastructure activities have been carried out.

In Digital Ethiopia 2025, the country is striving for ensuring inclusive development, he noted.Recalling that the government has established a Digital Transformation Council to make it a reality for the sector, Temesgen pointed out that one of its priorities is to strengthen the coordination process by increasing the participation of the private sector.

In this re
gard, the Deputy Prime Minister called on the private sector to play a leading role in attaining Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

African World Heritage Day To Be Observed Around Tiya World Archaeological Site in Ethiopia


Addis Ababa: African World Heritage Day will be celebrated tomorrow in Ethiopia’s Tiya archaeological world heritage site situated in the Central Ethiopia region, the Ethiopian Heritages Authority disclosed.

The African World Heritage Day is annually celebrated as proclaimed by the 38th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in November 2015.

The day is considered as an opportunity to discuss the future of heritage in Africa and for people all over the world, in particular Africans, to celebrate the continent’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

Ethiopia will observe the day for the 8th times at continental level and 2nd at national level tomorrow under the theme: ‘Education for the Protection of African World Heritage,’ at Tiya world archaeological site located in Gurage Zone of Central Ethiopia Region.

Ethiopian Heritages Authority said in a statement that cultural and natural heritages are instrumental to building national image besides their economic contribution.

The day provides an opportunity t
o create awareness about international conventions regarding the protection of heritages in African and beyond.

Currently, 46 African countries including Ethiopia have contributed 147 heritages to the global community. Out of the 147 world heritages, Ethiopia is number one among African countries by registering 11 heritages.

Tiya archeological site is one of Ethiopia’s world heritages. The place provides stones stelae decorated with symbols, some of them sword-like. There are in total 36 stelae date from between the 10th and 15th centuries AD.

They are seen as the best examples of a larger tradition of megalithic pillar sites in the region.

Partnerships Crucial in Ethiopia’s Efforts to Achieve Durable Peace: Ministry of Peace


Addis Ababa: The Ministry of Peace stated that the cooperation of various partners is crucial in Ethiopia’s endeavors to ensure lasting peace.

A delegation led by Minister of Peace, Binalf Andualem discussed with leaders of the Stirling Foundation in the state of Utah, United States of America about the issues of cooperation in the peace building process.

The delegation also witnessed the humanitarian aid centers in Salt Lake City, the practices of different religions for peace and harmony, and the positive impacts that have been obtained from those activities.

During the occasion, Peace Minister Binalf said that the voluntary service being provided in the province is making a significant contribution to nurture peace and realize a strong state.

Ethiopia can learn vital lessons from this activity in the state of Utah, according to the minister.Furthermore, Binalf requested the Sterling Foundation to continue its contribution in the ongoing efforts to bring about a lasting peace in Ethiopia.

Vice Presiden
t and Chief Relations Officer of Sterling Foundation, Nicole Stirling said on her part that Ethiopia is a country with ancient history, wonderful culture and values for harmonious relations.

Stirling reaffirmed that the Foundation will strengthen its support for the government’s concerted efforts to achieve lasting peace.

The delegation of the Ministry of Peace also conferred with the officials of various governmental institutions, working on peace building in the state of Utah.

According to the Ministry of Peace, the delegation visited various historical sites in Salt Lake City.

African Religious Leaders Urged to Play Greater Role in Fostering Peace in Continent, World


Addis Ababa: Participants in the celebrations of the Special African Spiritual day urged religious leaders to play a greater role in fostering social cohesion and promoting peace throughout Africa and beyond.

African Spiritual Day celebrated today for the fifth time in Addis Ababa at the headquarters of the African Union.

The 5th Special Africa Spiritual Day Celebration was marked under the Theme: ‘Educating the African Person to be Spiritually Enlightened in the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa.”

The event is jointly convened by the African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development – Africa. (IAPD)

The objective is to serve as a platform whereby spiritual and religious leaders of diverse backgrounds within IAPD speak with one voice, thereby fostering unity among them as well as to lift spirituality to its rightful place in human life and society
in general and to promote universally shared values.

Promoting character building for the youth and true family values for married couples is also the objective behind the celebration and advocate peace and coexistence in different regions of Africa and the world.

Leaders of different religions and representatives of religions and community leaders in African countries and the international community attended the event.

On the occasion, the participants emphasized the need to strengthen the spirituality of the African citizen through the introduction of religious education and African culture in regular education systems.

The participants encouraged religious leaders to teach Africans to use their minds, hearts, and hands for peace and development in the continent.

Unity among religions in Africa is instrumental to addressing the problem of conflicts that result from religious differences, it was indicated.

The African Union Commission under the Civil Society and Diaspora Directorate (AUC-CIDO) founded
the African Union Interfaith Dialogue Forum to promote interreligious dialogue to build peace and enhance social cohesion in Africa.

PM Abiy Says Sof Omar Dev’t Project Showing Remarkable Progress


Addis Ababa: Prime Minister Abiy said that the inspiring start of the Sof Omar project in Oromia Region underscores the importance of strong project management.

The premier said on his social media that ‘Last year, when we launched the book “Generation Medemer,” we dedicated the proceeds from sales in the Oromia Region to developing the Sof Omar area. Today, we witnessed the remarkable progress made. ‘

The prime minister stated the inspiring start of the Sof Omar project underscores the importance of strong project management.

This progress is already boosting employment and will accelerate living standards in the community, he indicated.

Bale, with its rich history and natural endowments, is a high-potential area, Abiy said, adding that ‘Its attractive landscapes, coupled with infrastructure development and improved connectivity, can catalyze further growth. Nearby Dinsho Park adds to the area’s appeal.’

‘Generation Medemer” is the third series of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s book.

Abiy has previously p
ublished two books titled “Medemer” and “Medemer Journey.”

This latest series, “Generation Medemer”, is published in Amharic, Afan Oromo, and English languages.

The proceedings of the book is being used to restore historical and tourist attractions in regions.

Continental Association Strives to Realizing Single African Air Transport Market


Addis Ababa: The Secretary General of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Abdérahmane Berthé highlighted the efforts being carried out to expedite the implementation of a Single African Air Transport Market.

The Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) is a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, to create a single unified air transport market in Africa, liberalize civil aviation and drive the continent’s economic integration agenda.

The Declaration on the establishment of a Single Africa Air Transport Market was adopted by the African Union (AU) Assembly in 2015.

SAATM was formally established and launched on the 29 January 2018 by African Heads of States and Government.

It is to be recalled that 17 African countries, including Ethiopia, have agreed to start the single market for air transport on a trial basis.

The agreement removes restrictions imposed by African-owned airlines on commercial and market-oriented flights from one country to another.

African Airlines Association (A
FRAA) Secretary General, Abdérahmane Berthé told ENA that there are several obstacles that prevent the African aviation industry from growing as expected.

Lack of sufficient air transport in the continent and the growing inflation are some of these bottlenecks, he indicated.

Abdérahmane mentioned that we are at a time when policy makers should work with focus to overcome the challenges of the sector and to accelerate single air transport market in Africa.

He stated that the implementation of single African air transport market will play a greater role in the development of the aviation industry and the expansion of mutual market connections.

The secretary general stated that many countries have signed the agreement, however he stressed te need for swift implementation.

According to him, the association is working closely with the relevant bodies to accelerate its implementation.

Especially, he pointed out that the African Civil Aviation Commission is working with the issue.

When the African Free Trade
Zone implemented, Single African Air Transport Market will play a greater role in the expansion of the continent’s market, he added.

Therefore, he stressed the need to use the market potentials in the air transport sector and work together for the development of air transportation in the continent.
